To be active physically, demonstrating knowledge and understanding mainly through physical activity.

To engage in activities that develop cardiovascular health, flexibility, muscular strength and endurance.

To develop independence through problem solving physical challenges, evaluating, modifying technique and consolidating skills through practise and repetition.

To promote health awareness and the value of adopting a healthy lifestyle.

To instil a sense of good sportsmanship, and encourage recognition of other pupils’ contribution.

To develop leadership skills, responsibility and self-awareness.

To support the development of selfesteem through the development of physical confidence and helping pupils to cope with both success and failure in competitive and co-operative activities.

To develop skills as a team player, including praise for others and motivation skills.

To recognise and follow relevant rules, laws, codes, etiquette and safety procedures for different activities or events, in practice and during competition.



Pupils have full access to the Physical Education National Curriculum which is differentiated to meet pupils’ learning needs and styles.  Our PE programme incorporates a variety of sports to ensure all children develop the confidence, tolerance and the appreciation of their own and others’ strengths and weaknesses. We provide opportunities for all children to engage in extra-curricular activities before, during and after school, in addition to competitive sporting events. This is an inclusive approach which endeavours to encourage not only physical development but also well-being. They will have a minimum of two hours curriculum PE time a week.

The Physical Education curriculum is designed to be challenging, appropriate to each pupil’s stage of development.

Pupils will:

Have fun and experience success in sport

Have the opportunity to participate in P.E at their own level of development

Secure and build on a range of skills

Develop good sporting attitude

Understand basic rules

Experience positive competition

Learn in a safe environment

Have a foundation for lifelong physical activity, leaving primary school as physically active.

In school sport

Being outside and active are important parts of school life. All our pupils have timetabled P.E. lessons. Our PE curriculum teaches a great deal about co-ordination, posture and movement - as well as more traditional skills.

Additionally, the school offers a range of after school clubs: Football, Netball, Cross-Country, Tennis, Dance, Lacrosse and Hockey. The school participates in the Croydon Football and Netball leagues.

Inspired by the future decade of sport across the UK, National Governing Bodies of Sport, health organisations and County Sports Partnerships are working more closely than ever to involve as many young people in sport and physical activity as possible. Never before have there been so many opportunities to be involved in school sport!


The world is a competitive place with challenges and pressures on all our lives to stand out from the crowd or to be successful. What better place to learn then the lessons of what it takes to be your best, to be creative and to accept winning and deal with losing than school sport? The School Games is all about being the best you can be.

To help with this, there are a set of values developed by young people called the Spirit of the Games. The values are self belief, honesty, teamwork, respect, determination and passion.


In order to provide more competitive sporting opportunities, a key focus is to give more young people responsibility within sport. Whether it is as a player, reporter or referee, the School Games provide an excellent opportunity for all young people to make a positive and active contribution to their school.

The School Games is open to everyone - whether they see themselves as 'sporty' or not. Our Curriculum Competitions are a good example of this.
